FLYER July 2022

This is the second edition of the new look FLYER, the July 2022 edition. It’s a compilation of selected articles we have uploaded to this website over the past four weeks. You can download it as a pdf for reading offline using whatever device you prefer.

Alternatively, you could read those same articles here, on this website. There are links in the descriptions below.

Farm strip flying is a theme with this issue. First, the cover story is about Matt Coles’ Farm Strip Flying course which Dave Calderwood writes about here.

It’s followed by a flight test from 2018 of the Just Aircraft SuperSTOL aircraft, possibly the ultimate short take-off and landing farm strip aircraft. Ian’s verdict? Read that review here.

And if STOL’s your thing, or even if not but you like reading our Flying Adventures, Ed Smiley-Jones goes on a STOL tour to Scotland with some like-minded friends in ‘Finding your own Alaska’ here.

On a completely different tack, Dave White was on his way back from Friedrichshafen when the engine of his Jodel started to run roughly – just as he was about to cross the English Channel! Dave diverted into Le Tréport and there follows the tale. Read Dave’s account here.

Dave’s not the only one with aircraft mechanical woes and Ian Seager tells the tale of the alternator starting to fail on his Cessna 182. “It’ll never happen to me…” but it did! Read Ian’s column here.

In Top Gear, Jonny tests the Yaesu 850L, a feature-packed handheld radio (and more), and DC reviews Harrier: How to be a fighter pilot by Paul Tremelling.
